Our Story, Mission & Work
📜 Our Historic Legacy — National Level
The Foundation (1919)
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (Council of Indian Muslim Theologians) is a premier organization of Islamic scholars belonging to the Deobandi school of thought. It was founded in November 1919 by a visionary group of scholars including Abdul Bari Firangi Mahali, Kifayatullah Dehlawi, Muhammad Ibrahim Mir Sialkoti, and Sanaullah Amritsari. The first general meeting was held in Amritsar on December 28, 1919, where the constitution drafted by Kifayatullah Dehlawi was presented.
Role in the Freedom Struggle
The Jamiat was a fierce opponent of British colonial rule and a pioneer of the independence movement:
- Composite Nationalism: The organization staunchly opposed the partition of India, advocating that Muslims and non-Muslims form one united nation.
- Khilafat & Congress Alliance: It was an active participant in the Khilafat Movement in collaboration with the Indian National Congress.
- Boycott & Resistance: In 1920, the Jamiat issued a famous religious edict (Fatwa Tark-e-Mawalat) signed by 500 scholars to boycott British goods.
- Quit India Movement: The organization participated in the Quit India Movement and the Salt March, with its leaders frequently facing imprisonment by the British authorities.
Constitutional Allegiance
The Jamiat views the Constitution of India as a mutual contract (Mu’ahadah) between the various communities of the country. As a result, it is the responsibility of Indian Muslims to support the secular framework of the nation and remain loyal, law-abiding citizens.
🌿 Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind — Kerala State Unit
Our Mission in Kerala
The Kerala state unit functions as a vital branch of the national body, operating as a non-political entity dedicated to the service of humanity. We work under the motto: “Service to Humanity, Obedience to Almighty.”
Major Relief & Rehabilitation Projects
- Wayanad Landslide Rehabilitation: Following the Mundakkai-Chooralmala disaster, Jamiat Kerala successfully constructed and handed over 11 New Houses to survivor families. We also launched a “Green Initiative” to restore the area’s ecology by planting saplings.
- Koottickal Flood Restoration: We provided essential household items including 240 beds, 40 utensil sets, and 36 gas stoves. To ensure clean water access, we installed 20 water tanks and 7 motors.
Continuous Social Welfare
- Jamiat Caravan (Widow Support): This flagship program supports 102 families with a monthly pension totaling ₹2,00,500. We go beyond financial aid by tracking the educational progress of their children and providing motivational counseling.
- Educational Initiatives: Through the Jamiat Study Centre, we provide NIOS coaching for 10th and +2 students. Our Deeni Talimi Board aims to reach 5,000 children with moral and basic religious education.
- Ulama Empowerment: We conduct specialized social work training for Islamic scholars, with a target to equip 1,000 Ulama with modern community service skills within three years.
